Belly Dance Foundations:
Posture, Drills, and Flow
In this workshop, we will work on proper dance posture, which can carry over to healthy posture in daily life, using drills to get movements into our muscle memory, and practice connected, flowing movement.
This class is all-level. Total beginners and the curious can come try it out. Experienced dancers can practice the basics.
Belly dancing is fun, energizing, and easy to learn. It is an ancient, artistic movement that flows with natural body mechanics. It simply requires an open mind and a positive attitude. Learn basic belly dance movements and techniques, improve muscle tone, flexibility and balance, and build self-confidence and foster a creative spirit. Movements are delightfully low-impact. Students are encouraged to move at their own pace and ability with no judgement or competition.
Participant Clothing Suggestions:
This is a dance and movement class so participants are asked to
dress comfortably.
Student clothing: Work-out / gym clothing is fine. A summer-style blouse, t-shirt, or mid-drift top is good. Shorts, leggings, or yoga pants are great. Just like jazz dancers, most belly dancers perform in bare feet so they can grip and feel the floor. However, participants are urged wear non-slip socks (closed-toe yoga, Pilates, or studio socks), or dance shoes. Sandals or bulky shoes, which can inhibit movement, aren’t recommended.
Feel free to wear hip scarves, hip belts, hip shawls, or belly dance costume.
